State gaming regulators have visited the proposed sites of a land-based casino in the Sioux City area.

The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission toured the sites Tuesday. A public hearing is scheduled in the afternoon to talk about them and the groups vying for a gambling license in Woodbury County.

Penn National Gaming Co. submitted two proposals for a Hollywood Casino. One is in downtown Sioux City and the other is on the southern edge of the city.

Ho-Chunk Inc. wants a Warrior Casino and Hotel downtown. Sioux City Entertainment wants to build a Hard Rock Casino downtown.

Penn operates the Argosy Sioux City riverboat, which state regulators want to replace with a land-based casino. A gaming license will be awarded in April.
