A Pacific Junction, Iowa man was sentenced in court after pleading guilty for his role the death of a 13-month-old girl.
An investigation indicated 23-year-old Colby Puckett was caring for Aliyanna May when she sustained injuries to her head and eyes. He is the boyfriend of the girl's mother.
Doctors determined that her injuries were likely the result of abusive head trauma. Her death in early 2013 was ruled a homicide.
Puckett entered a plea of guilty to a charge of second degree murder. On Monday, in Mills County court, he was sentenced to 50 years in prison and will be eligible for parole after 35 years.
Puckett will be taken to Oakdale Classification Center to determine his medical condition before entering into the prison system.
