Iowa Man Admits Selling Methadone Causing Deaths

An Iowa man has pleaded guilty to selling prescription methadone that contributed to two drug overdose deaths.

Tim Bowen II pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in Cedar Rapids to one count of distribution of methadone, a powerful pain reliever.

At the hearing, he said that he was prescribed methadone for an injury and started selling the pills to various individuals in 2010. He admitted that he sold 60 pills to an individual from Hiawatha, who later died along with another person from using a combination of drugs, including Bowen's methadone.

The 52-year-old Bowen remains in custody pending sentencing, which has not been scheduled. He faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.
