A joint committee of House and Senate lawmakers plans to meet and resume work on a compromise education policy plan.
The Tuesday meeting comes amid disagreement between Senate Democrats and House Republicans over how much to increase school funding and how to implement Republican Gov. Terry Branstad's proposed education overhaul. That plan includes teacher salary increases and leadership incentives.
House Republicans said last week that they would accept Democrats' requests for bigger yearly increases in general funding for schools, if Senate Democrats agreed to House proposals making teacher salary increases and incentives optional for school districts.
But Democrats have not agreed to the offer. Democratic senators argue that the changes should be mandatory and they have questioned the amount of funding offered by Republicans.
