MEDIAPOLIS, Iowa (AP) - Authorities in the southeast Iowa city of Mediapolis are investigating nearly 70 reports of car burglaries over several days.
The Des Moines County Sheriff's Office says they're asking the public for help in the case. No arrests have been made.
Sheriff Mike Johnstone says 18 burglaries were reported between the night of March 22 and the morning of March 23. An additional 50 break-ins were reported overnight Monday. In some cases, the suspect or suspects entered garages and sheds looking for other items.
Johnstone told the Hawk Eye (http://bit.ly/1jgQxhK ) that most of the vehicles involved were unlocked. Some vehicles had nothing taken. Others had windows smashed or purses stolen.
Up to $1,000 is being offered to anyone who presents information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
