Plattsmouth street repair jobs awarded. This summer’s work is to be completed by August 31st.
The Cassgram reports It was the completion date that kept the package from being awarded to the lowest bidder. M.E. Collins’ $389,695 bid was the lowest but the company said it couldn’t have the work completed until November 21st and that is past the stipulated completion date that was needed for the city to comply with its fiscal year commitments.
Instead the contract went to Tab Construction for $409,903.
Works areas: 17th Avenue from Lincoln Avenue to 15th Street; 3rd Street from Main to Avenue A; 3rd Street from Avenue A to Avenue B; 1st Avenue from 15th Street to 16th Street; 15th Street from 1st Avenue to 2nd Avenue; 6th Avenue from 7th Street to 9th Street; 7th Street from 1st Avenue to Main Street; Andies Street (curve); 1st Avenue 18th Street to the railroad tracks, various Avenue B intersections; various Avenue G intersections and other intersection locations in town.
Absent from this bid package was 1st Avenue between 3rd and 6th Streets, the number one priority on this year’s 1 & 6 Year Street Plan. That section is heavily damaged from the time it has served as a Highway 34 detour during the Main Street CSO project and most recently as a detour because of the fenced off area on Main Street/ Highway 34 due to the fire damaged buildings.
City Public Works Director Gary Hellwig said that the uncertainty of how long the portion of Main Street would be fenced off kept the 1st Avenue/3rd to 6th Street segment off this bid package. He said that will be bid separately at a later time when Main is totally open again.
