It's been a big weekend for Omaha with the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in town. While those who competed are walking away with a win or a loss, local businesses say they were all winners.

The U.S. Figure Skating Championships was an event that many looked forward to. Thousands from all over the country came to the CenturyLink Center to compete or to watch. “It has been phenomenal, the pairs and the dancing and we watched the ladies last night, it's just super,” said Todd Zinnel of Omaha.

Not only an exciting time for figure skating fans, but also for businesses downtown. "We are always excited to have people walking around the Old Market,” said Wheatfield’s owner Ron Popp. “It keeps the activity level high."

Popp said with so many people in the city, business has been booming. “I would say probably 30 to 40 percent up in business."

You could tell by the crowds Sunday morning. “We've been staying here the whole weekend and just taking in the atmosphere along the whole Omaha area,” said visitor Bill Woepple, who’s been taking in the atmosphere and spending money at local stores. "It's so much fun to see, the unique stores and walk around and different items that you don't normally see at other malls."

Many visitors wanted to see what Omaha is all about and what better way to do that than to walk around the Old Market. That means Wheatfield’s wasn't the only one seeing an increase in customers. Other restaurants and hotels said they’ve also been busy.
