It can happen to any of us and Wednesday it happened to UNL Athletic Director Tom Osborne. Osborne was ticketed for speeding on I-80 between Omaha and Lincoln. The Nebraska State Patrol confirms he was going 78 in a 65 mile per hour zone.
Contacted by Channel 6 News Investigative Reporter Mike McKnight, Osborne said, "I was going too fast but I didn't mean to." Osborne said his car was on cruise control and he didn't take it off when he should have.
The former Husker Head Coach said, "I haven't had a ticket for a long time." When contacted by McKnight, Osborne indicated he will pay the fine.
Typically a ticket for that kind of infraction carries a $75 fine plus court costs.
Osborne was snagged between the Waverly and Greenwood exits where the speed limit drops.
