I-80 Bridge Named To Honor Trooper

Iowa officers, legislators and others will honor an Iowa State Patrol trooper killed 47 years ago by naming a bridge after him.

The bridge crossing the Des Moines River along Interstate 80 will be named Thursday in honor of trooper Marvin Vander Linden, who was killed June 11, 1965. A ceremony will be held at the state patrol's District 1 office in Des Moines.

Linden was responding to an accident call when his cruiser was struck by another car. Both Linden and the other driver were killed instantly.

Linden had served with the state patrol for 24 years.

The dedication is part of a statewide effort to honor the 10 troopers who died while serving the state during the patrol's 77-year history.
