Getting to Kansas City will be a lot easier by the end of the week. The Iowa Department of Transportation says it plans to re-open Interstate 29 in southwest Iowa later this week. It has been closed since June 15 due to flooding.
In the meantime, construction and repair work is ongoing. When I-29 reopens, temporary lane crossovers will be in place at mile posts 0.8 and 3.2 near Hamburg. This will require two-way traffic in the southbound lanes.
Meanwhile, two I-29 exits in southwest Iowa will remain closed. They are Exit 1 to Hamburg and Exit 10 to Nebraska City. Those exits have flood damage that still needs repairs.
