A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Jefferson and Saline counties in Nebraska until 9:15 p.m. Sunday. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until midnight for much of eastern Nebraska, including Omaha.

I-29 Construction Project

Removal of a bridge over Interstate 29 near exit 147B in Sioux City will require closing I-29 from 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, until 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, weather permitting.

Motorists are asked to follow the marked detours.

  • Traffic on U.S. 77/Wesley Parkway to northbound I-29 will travel on southbound I-29 to Nebraska Street, Sixth Street, Fourth Street, Hamilton Boulevard and then northbound I-29.
  • Northbound I-29 to southbound U.S. 77/Wesley Parkway traffic will take the ramp at exit 147B, travel on Gordon Drive to Pearl Street, then take Sixth Street to Fourth Street, and then Hamilton Boulevard before turning left onto the I-29 exit ramp to U.S. 77.
  • Traffic on southbound Wesley Parkway will take Kansas Street to Pierce Street before traveling on southbound I-29.

According to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Sioux City construction office. I-29 traffic will be routed on the ramps around the demolition during this closure.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones.

As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
