Nebraska basketball fans are like kids on Christmas these days, because both of their teams are playing strong.
Creighton and the University of Nebraska are both ready for tournament play. And the truth, it's been a long time since both teams have had a shot of going to the NCAA Tournament together. Twenty-three years to be exact, the last time was in 1991.
So with two favorites going, it could be a hard choice for fans.
"I want to be clear that it's Nebraska that I am a fan of. And Creighton is part of Nebraska, and there are a lot of fans out there who say you can only be one or the other," said Louis Phillips, DJ's Dugout Shift Manager.
Phillips is tending bar Tuesday night, and he admits it's hard to choose. He's tells WOWT 6 News he's served plenty of drinks to fans on both sides this year.
The players on the other hand know how they feel about the rivalry.
"Our fans bases like to go back and forth at each other but I think that’s unnecessary," said Doug McDermott. "We should just enjoy this time. It been kind of rare where both programs are successful in the same year so I think, you know I’m happy for them. I like Tim Miles, he’s a great coach, and I think we should really appreciate what’s going on here."
And while McDermott may have won over many fans himself, so has Nebraska head coach Tim Miles.
Phillips remembers he was skeptical of Miles at the season beginning.
"He has definitely changed my opinion," he said with a proud smile.
Whether a fan bleeds white and blue or scarlet and cream, this season has still been a good run with a big chance of more W's still to come.
