Huskers Against Hunger

Drew Hines recently embarked on a project with far-reaching effects. The North Bend, Nebraska native helped coordinate Huskers Against Hunger, which will provide 700,000 meals to people in need in Haiti and the United States.

Hines and other students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln organized the effort in which approximately 1,500 volunteers spent two nights last week packaging the meals and getting them ready for shipment.

This year’s original goal was one million meals and about $250,000. Funds still are being collected.

By the time this year’s fundraising has concluded, Hines believes about $100,000 will have been collected with fraternities and sororities contributing about $35,000 of that.
