We've been talking about it for weeks and it's finally here. This weekend when Nebraska starts Big Ten play, they will be wearing the new and improved "alternate" jerseys. And now it’s what they’ll be wearing on their feet that has fans talking.
We caught up with some players and coached at Omaha Bobcats football practice.
“We're trying to develop these kids into better players,” said Coach Roger Lenwandowski.
He is busy repping for their next game but make no mistake, they're also thinking about Saturday when the Huskers host Wisconsin at home wearing their new alternate uniforms.
“I think they are really cool and I like how they are changing to the black helmets,” said Austin Lewandowski.
“I think it's pretty cool, I like the “N” on the jersey and then the numbers up top,” said Billy Kennedy.
Announced back in August, fans will see the Huskers in all red with a black "N", a black helmet and black shoes.
“We're seeing quite a few programs that are doing this,” said Pat Lawlor.
Lawlor says they have seen a lot of hype surrounding the new fan gear too.
“We ordered in about 70 jersey's sold them all within about 2 days. One guy bought 16,” said Lawlor.
This week word is spreading that the Husker shoes won't be wearing just any cleat. Monday a YouTube video was released, showing player reaction to the shoe. That reaction that getting mixed theories.
“Could be some kind of crazy reflection triggered by the flash,” said Lenwandowski.
His son on the other hand, thinks it will turn white. Either way, the hype will put the huskers under the lights and under the national spotlight.
“It’s important to throw products out there that get people excited. Give people alternatives, give you something to sell,” said Lenwandowski.
“Fans get excited about this, it gives fans a way to participate,” said Lawlor.
Fans will find out whatever exactly the video reveals on Saturday. Kick-off is at 7:00 pm.
Lawlor’s says they don’t know anything about the shoes other then the fact that they haven’t been worn by anyone else before.
