The heart of the hunting season is upon us, and as you purchase your Nebraska hunting permits, you will have an opportunity to help those less fortunate.
Nourishment is one of life's basic needs, and in these challenging economic times, the number of hungry families in Nebraska does not equal the food supplies on hand. With this in mind, Nebraska's Legislature and the Game and Parks created the Hunters Helping the Hungry program.
Hunters Helping the Hungry encourages hunters to give harvested deer to participating processors to feed Nebraskans in need. Cash donations are accepted to cover the cost of processing the donated deer. This year, we hope to provide the opportunity for at least 260 deer to be processed and donated to Nebraska food banks.
When purchasing hunting permits online, hunters will be offered a chance to make a donation to the Hunters Helping the Hungry program.
Program details can be found on Game and Parks website; a list of participating processors will be posted in the next few days. If you have already purchased permits, but wish to support this program, you can donate online or mail a check to Game and Parks at the address shown on the left.
