Strong winds are buffeting the Heartland prompting a high wind advisory throughout the area.
Stiff west to northwest winds will continue to whip through the region this afternoon and evening. Expect sustained winds at 25-35 MPH but occasional gusts to 45-50 MPH.
Peak wind gusts so far at Eppley Airport occurred shortly after 4AM at 55 MPH, while Council Bluffs was battered with 48 MPH gusts earlier this morning as well.
Winds will continue to be quite strong right into the evening hours so make sure outdoor objects are secure and protected from these intense winds.
Traveling, too, will be challenging with fierce winds whipping across the interstate so be extra careful if driving a small light-weight vehicle or if hauling a camper trailer.
Winds should ease up by Wednesday but could become quite blustery again by Thursday.
