An Omaha man is in jail for allegedly starting several fires in a Lincoln home while the owner was sleeping.
Lincoln Police arrested 21-year-old Alec Smith Tuesday for first-degree arson.
Police said the owner of the house near 23rd and Vine streets discovered the fire around 10 a.m. Sunday.
According to police, friends and acquaintances let Smith stay over night.
When the owner woke up, he found hot sauce had been thrown over the walls, ceiling and furniture. Burn marks were also found on the coffee table, cabinet, fridge and wall. Smith extinguished the fires before he left.
Smith allegedly used butane and Pam Cooking Spray to start the fires.
Damage is estimated at $500.
