A hot air balloon pilot walked away from a scare Tuesday night at the National Balloon Classic in Indianola, Iowa.
Jim Thomson of Des Moines was trying to land in a field when something went wrong and his balloon wound up tangled in power lines.
Firefighters and utility workers worked to get the errant craft out of the wires.
Witness Monty Beard said the pilot tried to, "steer away" from the wires but nothing seemed to work.
“Basically just all straight down,” he said. “He started to turn the burners on. But it didn`t slow him down at all. Then when he hit the ground he just collapsed."
No one was hurt and the rest of the Balloon Classic moved ahead as scheduled.
