Over the last week we've shared a number of stories of heartland heroes, honors for everything from life-saving efforts to inspirational actions. On Wednesday afternoon, they shared the spotlight together.
WOWT’s Malorie Maddox emceed the American Red Cross program Heroes in the Heartland.
Hundreds turned out to hear the personal stories of triumph.
Eight youngsters also shared the stage for writing about who their heroes are. Out of 700 entries, their essays were selected as the standouts.
Jenna Bellmyer is a Bellevue eighth-grader wrote an essay called Darling Dad.
She said, “My father was my hero because he laid his life down on the line to give us something most people wouldn’t have the courage to do which is our freedom.”
