Honoring Families Of Fallen Military

It's all about honoring our fallen heroes by honoring the families who are left behind. The 7th Annual Snowball Express helps make fun memories for the families of fallen military.

Four families left Eppley Airfield in Omaha Friday morning bound for Dallas where they will take part in an all-expense paid weekend event designed to honor children and spouses of fallen military members.

Some of the events planned for this year's Snowball Express include taking part in the Dallas Children's Parade, a trip to Six Flags and a private concert by Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band.

American Airlines provides free transportation for all of the families taking part.

Kay Schild lost her husband Richard in Iraq in 2005. Her kids were 6 and 7 at the time. Now they're teenagers and look forward to this trip every year. "When we arrive at the Dallas airport, you just get off the terminal and there's people clapping and cheering for you," says Kay Schild of Yankton, South Dakota. "And it's just like, how many people can be here? And it's just amazing."

This is the first time at the Snowball Express for the Websters and the Koeles from Hartley, Iowa. "It means a lot to know that people care and they're there to support you, to make sure that the kids are remembered," says Jessica Webster, who lost her husband LeRoy in Iraq in 2009.

Jessica's 13-year-old daughter Natasha said, "My mom told me about it and I could not wait to come. I was like jumping out of my pants."

Cheryl Koele's husband Shane passed away seven years ago. "It's really an honor to know that there are people out there that support the military and what they do for the country."

Paige Garber is meeting the rest of her family in Dallas for the weekend. She says it's a fun and comforting time with others who have gone through the same experience. "You just get to kind of forget for a little while what happened and just be with people who understand."
