Home Security Cameras

Security cameras started in businesses. Convenience stores and banks made the most use of them.

The next group to use them was drug dealers but the cameras often brought unwanted police attention.

Now many home security packages use cameras. The cost has dropped dramatically and they are able to prove the proof police need for an arrest.

John and Mary Siref have had their ADT security system a little over a year and it has already solved a vandalism problem and given them peace of mind.

John Siref says, "We need proof it is you word against theirs you can't prove."

John would see a neighbor boy damage their property but every time he called the sheriff's department he would get the same answer, without proof deputies couldn't do a thing.

That was when they turned to ADT.

John Siref says, "I can't do a think about it unless you have proof. My camcorder didn't help that much you can't catch them at night or anytime but this is what captured somebody doing something to the house.”

One time the siding was damaged, another time the mailbox was knocked over, someone even threw chemicals on the Siref's lawn burning the grass.

The authorities couldn't do anything until there was proof who did the damage.

The cameras the Siref's had installed provided the pictures for deputies to identify the vandal. It was the next door neighbor kid but the Siref's declined to press charges.

Whether it was giving the pre-teen a second chance or the fact that the cameras were always on even seeing in the dark, there was never another incident of vandalism.

John Siref says, "There was still action out here but no vandalism but people on our yard and on our driveway out here just sitting, sitting by our mailbox but they didn't do anything."

So the cameras did their job by catching the vandal but they also give the Siref's a feeling of security they didn't have before.
