Home Invasion Latest Crime To Hit Omaha Neighborhood

Residents of an Omaha neighborhood say too much has been happening over the last six months and they must band together to help one another.

Police were again in the area of 47th and L, this time to investigate a home invasion on Wednesday. A resident was beaten and his belongings taken away in broad daylight.

“We have so many people afraid to leave their homes anymore.” Jim Burdick has lived there for 10 years and says that over the last six months, vehicles have been stolen, shots have been fired and his neighborhood has been invaded.

“They park down the street, they walk up here and rob people, they walk up and down the street looking into people’s yards, some of them walk in your yard. We're just concerned about what’s happening in our neighborhood.”

Many residents don’t feel safe. Ben Byers was robbed about a month ago while he was asleep in his home. “It was like seven o’clock in the morning, they even turned the light on in her bedroom and walked around there a little bit, got to my dining room, that’s where I had all my medicine, they took that.” Police have no suspects in that robbery.

In Wednesday’s home invasion, the victim did not require medical treatment. Residents say they will keep a closer eye on each other.
