Hit-and-Run Mess in Council Bluffs

UPDATE: Police have identified three people hurt in a startling crash near 29th and Avenue B in Council Bluffs.

Police say 21-year-old Matthew Howell was driving a black Volvo that was involved in a hit and run crash at 29th and Broadway before heading north. Witnesses say the Volvo was nearing speeds of 70 miles per hour as it approached 29th and Avenue B, and struck a red Pontiac driven by 21-year-old Nathan Hall.

Howell's Volvo then hit a power pole and went airborne, landing on top of a parked car.

Howell and Hall were both taken to the hospital with serious injuries. A passenger in one of the vehicles, 26-year-old Thomas Forbes, was injured as well. All of the victims are now recovering at CHI Health CUMC.

Police have not released any information about potential charges connected to this crash.

A hit-and-run driver left a trail of destruction in Council Bluffs Wednesday evening.

It started near 29th and Broadway. Police say a driver hit a car and took off.

The driver reportedly then blew past a stop sign, hit a Jimmy Johns driver, hit a pole, flipped and landed on a parked car.

Three people were hospitalized - two from the suspect's car and the Jimmy Johns driver.
