Authorities have identified the driver in a hit-and-run traffic accident Tuesday afternoon as 21-year-old Tyree Davis. Investigators say he was driving a rented Chevy Cruze when the vehicle struck a bicyclist and left the scene. The bike rider was seriously injured.
It happened around 52nd and Emmet just before 1:30 p.m.
Davis was northbound when he allegedly hit the bicyclist, who was either in or near the roadway. Forty-five-year-old General Swayzer was thrown to the sidewalk and suffered broken neck vertebrae, a severe scalp laceration, possible paralysis and several lesser injuries. He was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center for treatment and is expected to survive.
Officers located the car and found Davis, who admitted to being involved in the accident. He said he left the scene because he was scared.
Davis was booked for leaving the scene of a personal injury collision and bond review on an unrelated marijuana charge.
