It hasn't received much attention as of late but there is a bridge under construction in the metro area over the Missouri River.
It's the new Highway 34 bridge just north of the Platte River near LaPlatte.
It will link the area with Interstate 29 and Glenwood, Iowa.
It's an important project for Sarpy and Cass Counties.
Carol and Jim Daley live off of LaPlatte Road.
The couple has lived in the area for close to four decades
They've seen the construction close up and believe, when complete, the project will be good for people who live south of the metro and commute to Omaha.
"The advantage I see to it is for the people in Beaver Lake," Jim said. The people in Plattsmouth, Nebraska City...It's going to be really nice. As far as what they had coming into Omaha, it's going to make it a lot easier for travel."
The Daleys originally moved out here to get away from big city traffic.
"We basically moved out here because we wanted to have animals and horses and things," Carol said. '"And once Bellevue came in and people started moving around us, it was a bit more difficult to have that kind of atmosphere."
"Where we live, 37 years ago as far as you can see in any direction there was one other house and now it's all full of houses," Jim said.
The Daleys say they have learned to live with expansion and growth in the area.
New bridges, wider roads...it's just progress.
Construction workers have about 18 months of work left before the Highway 34 bridge is complete.
