Update: Heineman Names Heidemann As New Lieutenant Governor

Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman named Nebraska Regent Lavon Heidemann to serve as the new Lieutenant Governor of Nebraska.

The announcement was made as a news conference Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.

The new lieutenant governor was sworn in during a public ceremony at the Capitol. Heidemann resigned from the Nebraska Board of Regents.

The new lieutenant governor replaces Rick Sheehy, who resigned abruptly earlier this month. His resignation came as the Omaha World-Herald revealed that Sheehy had made thousands of calls to women, other than his wife, on his state-issued cellphone.

Heineman, a Republican, has said he wants a replacement who does not intend to run for governor in 2014.
