Heartland Commemorates Founder of American GI Forum

The 100th birthday of Dr. Hector P. Garcia, the founder of the American GI Forum and pioneer civil rights and veterans advocate for Mexican American people on a national basis, will be commemorated with a luncheon and awards ceremony.

Jose F. Garcia, Trustee on the Nebraska State Historical Society will make a short presentation of Dr. Garcia’s life and career.

Please join veterans and community leaders for lunch and witness the Mayor of Omaha’s office, declare Dr. Hector P. Garcia Day in Omaha.

Certificates of Community service will be issued.

Time: 12:00 pm

Date: Friday, January 17, 2014

Place: GI Forum Clubhouse/restaurant at 20th & “N” St. South Omaha, Ne.

Cost: No cover, lunch ordered off restaurant menu

Event sponsors include the Mexican American Historical Society of the Midlands, Omaha Chapter and the Jerry Garcia Chapter of the American GI Forum, and the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Centennial Committee.
