Valentine's Day is less than a week away and while some may be worried about getting that special gift for their sweetheart, others are spreading the word about taking care of your actual heart.
Alegent Creighton Medical Center held a Heart Fair on Saturday. “If you catch it early, just like any other disease, we treat it early,” said the hospital's Pam Gaines.
The fair offered a number of heart health-related screenings ranging from pulmonary function to blood pressure readings. Having so many resources all in one place was good for Stephanie O'Connell. "Kind of like a routine checkup and at an affordable fee, it was important for us. It was easy for us to come in today."
At Papillion’s Shadow Lake Towne Center, the Bellevue Medical Center lured shoppers over to talk about heart health by giving away free pieces of dark chocolate. "Dark chocolate is healthy for the heart,” said Dr. Haysam Akkad. “It has some anti-oxidants, but in small amounts."
Alegent Creighton holds heart fairs every few months.
