A man is lucky to be alive and has an officer to thank for it.
Bellevue police say a driver hit a pole and continued heading south on Harlan Lewis Road despite losing a tire. The officer saw the SUV moving slowly and noticed the driver was slumped over the steering wheel and unconscious. The officer was able to reach into the vehicle and put it in park about 30 yards before the SUV would have crossed railroad tracks.
Alcohol is considered a factor in the accident.
