A trip to buy candy for the kids turned sour for a Council Bluffs mother when she ran into a man who took pictures of her five, six and 11-year-old children.
She wants other parents to know who the man is so they can be on the lookout for him.
The candy run took mom and the kids to a Walgreens. A man in the candy aisle gave Daisy Patlan an uncomfortable feeling.
"He walked by. He didn’t look at me," she said. "He looked at the girls and just that smile that he had on his face when he was looking at them was a red flag for me. What is he doing?”
That man in the candy aisle was 55-year-old Danny Lee Tschudin and Daisy Patlan kept her eye on him. She noticed that he was moving his cell phone around the children.
“What concerned me, I saw him switch the phone to his left hand and then pointed it out at them as he was walking by us and as he was walking by me I heard the clicking sound. I'm like, OK, this guy is taking pictures of us.”
Daisy and a Walgreens manager confronted Tschudin, asked to see the pictures, then called police. Tschudin was taken downtown and according to the police report he told officers he had a problem and has been in trouble previously for exposing himself to juveniles.
He told officers he was in the process of being placed on the sex offender registry and that he recently had a therapy session.
Patlan said, “I'm angry and I'm sad and I'm worried. He’s out there and we've all seen it before. This is how they start.”
According to the police report Tschudin has been banned from the Walgreens. He’s been charged with Third Degree Harassment and is currently free on bond. He has a court hearing next Thursday.
