Happy Birthday, Nebraska!

Fourth graders from around the state of Nebraska had a high-tech opportunity to celebrate Nebraska’s 146th birthday Tuesday.

A statehood birthday party was held at the Durham Museum in downtown Omaha. Secretary of State John Gale helped entertain a group of students who gathered from Omaha Public Schools, Omaha Catholic Schools, and Bellevue Public Schools.

The gathering was streamed live on the internet so that the students could interact with other children from five other schools. Mitch Hale of the Durham Museum said, “It’s just a great thing to have the opportunity to really connect with communities throughout the state of Nebraska to get kids here in Omaha with the smaller cities and towns in western Nebraska all hooking up at the same time, doing the same thing.”

While this was the first time the event has been streamed live on the internet, this was the 12th year for the event at the museum.
