He stood tall on the mound and an eight foot tall statue of bob Gibson will be installed outside a metro baseball stadium.
A model of the bronze sculptor has been unveiled by the Sarpy County Sports Commission. The statue will lead off a Row of Fame at Werner Park home of the Stormchasers.
Gibson’s wife Wendy said, “The hope is to continue the process and honor all the Nebraskans because there are many of them and we’re happy and honored to be the first.”
President of the Sarpy Sports Commission Bob Batt said Gibson is humble and plans to attend the unveiling of the full sized statute next spring.
The work is being done by metro sculpture Littleton Alston. The statue design kicks off a fundraising campaign for the Bob Gibson Heritage Project that will include an interactive website.
