Omaha police converged on Miller Park Friday where dispatchers reported gunshots fired and an officer in pursuit of a suspect who has now been identified as 19-year-old Lamontrelle Ashley.
An officer was doing paperwork in his cruiser parked at North 30th Street and Curtis Avenue just before 10 a.m. when Ashley walked by, apparently not seeing the officer, and allegedly opened fire.
After getting out and identifying himself as a police officer, the suspect took off running into Miler Park where he tossed the gun. He was arrested after a brief chase.
Suspect was booked for unlawful discharge, possession of an unregistered firearm and obstructing an officer. There were no injuries to the officer.
