A man who shot and wounded a woman in her Norfolk, Nebraska home last winter was sentenced Wednesday to 27-37 years in prison.
Carlos Arevalo-Martinez pleaded guilty in August to first-degree assault and use of a firearm to commit a felony. He was accused of shooting Edna Gutierrez in the head on February 14th. He was taken into custody after a standoff with police in Stanton on February 16th.
Arevalo-Martinez maintained the gun went off accidentally, but evidence indicated that he hit Gutierrez with the gun prior to the shooting. Gutierrez was in the courtroom for the hearing but didn't testify.
