The Omaha Public School District alerted parents Thursday afternoon that two Benson High students were found in possession of a loaded firearm on school property. No one was hurt. The weapon was not fired.
This is the letter that was sent to parents:
Dear Benson High School Magnet Families:
We feel it’s important to inform you of an incident that occurred at school today—Thursday, December 5th.
Today, two Benson students were found to be in possession of a loaded firearm on school property. As soon as administrators were made aware of the situation, the School Resource Officer confiscated the weapon and police were immediately notified. Police arrived, took the firearm, and made two arrests.
No threats were made. No shots were fired. No one was hurt.
We want to emphasize that the safety of Benson High School Magnet students, faculty, and staff was maintained throughout the situation.
Please be assured that the safety of students, faculty, and staff is always a top priority at Benson High School Magnet. We appreciate your continued support in encouraging your children to make appropriate and safe decisions—and to report anything suspicious to a trusted adult.
