Construction crews were on site moving dirt around at the site of a building that will be a go to place for many young men in the North Omaha community after school.
NorthStar’s new multi-million after-school facility will include a 34,500 square foot building along with outdoor sports fields and space for other outdoor activities.
The 16-month construction project is the next step in fulfilling NorthStar’s vision to dramatically increase the graduation rate for North Omaha boys.
“NorthStar has examined models nationwide and the new indoor-outdoor facilities will provide a world-class program for Omaha’s most challenged young men,” said Board Chairman Richard D. Holland.
Everything is expected to be completed summer 2014 and open for after school programs that fall.
The programs will be offered to boys in north Omaha in fifth through eighth grades during the first year.
