David and Erica Harrig are retired. The Powerball winners from Gretna collected the check for their winnings Tuesday - a check for $61.45 million.
Governor Dave Heineman handled the formal presentation of the ceremonial monster check Tuesday afternoon.
David, 48, worked for Duncan Aviation for nearly 16 years. Erica, 36, was a nurse’s aid for 15 years.
David bought the winning ticket at Gretna’s Speedee Mart on December 11, just hours before the drawing that launched the Harrigs into the multi-millionaires club. He notified Erica by sending her a text message at work.
The Harrigs are mapping out a plan for the money and their future but some things just can’t wait.
“For me, I’m having a red Corvette delivered,” David said. “A new one.”
Erica’s thinking more in terms of a new house.
“We’re pinching ourselves,” she said. “It’s like living a dream.”
