The Omaha Police Department has received $16,789.68 in grant funding through the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety to provide enhanced efforts in the detection and arrest of impaired drivers.
Operations start this weekend, March 9th and will run through March 17th. The Omaha Police Department will allocate additional officers throughout the City of Omaha looking for impaired drivers. The enforcement efforts will focus on weekends, as well as the St. Patrick’s Day Holiday, Saturday, March 17, 2012. On St. Patrick’s Day, there will be additional officers on the street starting at 8 am through 4 am Sunday.
The Omaha Police Department would like to provide some safety recommendations for driving throughout the year, but especially for the St. Patrick’s Day Celebration. Ensure you always wear a safety belt; and when celebrating by drinking alcohol, have a designated driver or utilize a taxi service and always remember, “Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk.”
