The Omaha Police Department has completed its participation in the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety’s Accident Reduction Mini Grant.
Omaha Police used nearly $26,000 in funding from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety to conduct a dozen operations that focused on identifying accident causing driving behaviors through traffic enforcement.
The grant covered the months of July and August 2014.
These operations provided additional officers on the street conducting traffic enforcement at different locations at different times of day. The focus was on accident causing violations.
A total of 702 traffic citations were issued. Of those citations, 481 were for speeding, 77 for seat belt or child restraint violations, 85 for registration or no proof of insurance, 7 were drug related and there were 21 arrests for DUI or alcohol violations.
