The First Tee of Omaha

An Omaha junior golf program offers an opportunity for children in the metro a chance to play the game who otherwise could not.

Consider it a scaled down version of the Omaha Country Club, Steve Hogan Golf Course at Miller Park hosts Hogan's Junior Golf Heroes, The First Tee of Omaha. The program is open to children ages 5 to 18-years-old.

Each age group in the program is given a First Tee yardage book that helps them develop life and golf skills during their journey through the game.

Each golfer is taken through a six week program, they meet three times a week. The cost is $95 per player. However, Steve Hogan II, son of the late senior, refuses to turn down a child because the child's family can't afford to pay. In fact, 70% of the golfers at Hogan's Jr. Golf Heroes are on scholarship.

That's why the USGA's U.S. Senior Open is so important this week, Hogan II said, the two are working hand-in-hand. Some of the youth from the golf program at Steve Hogan Golf Course, will spend time at the Omaha Country Club volunteering as Standard bearers or fund raising selling concessions during the tournament. In return, a portion of those proceeds will be turned back to the junior golf program.
