A volunteer fire department is receiving some much needed help from a sandwich shop.

Firehouse Subs awarded Glenwood firefighters with a fire extinguisher training system worth $8,000 on Tuesday.

Lucas Lechtenberg, a volunteer firefighter, says the new system will allow firefighters to show demonstrations to the community on how to properly use a fire extinguisher.

“It means a lot to us. We've had this fire extinguisher training on our wish list of items for a number of years now, but because of budget constrains haven't been able to purchase it, so this really helps us a lot".

Firehouse Subs raised the cash by collecting spare change at many of their locations nationwide.

The Glenwood Fire Department applied for the grant back in February. This is the first donation the shop has made in Iowa.
