The joy of the holidays often shows itself in unique ways. For Sydni McConnel of Clearwater, Nebraska, she decided to give teddy bears to those who are waiting for treatment at the hospital. It's her way this Christmas to give back to a place that helped her.
She was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of 8-months. Now two-years in remission, she marches through the hallways of the Nebraska Medical Center on a mission.
"There's not much to look forward to day-to-day," said her mother, Heidi McConnel. "There aren't a lot of visitors. There's isn't a whole lot of pleasant some days. It's nice to see them smile when it's so gloomy some days."
Many of those on the receiving end of a teddy bear are surprised to learn that Sydni used to be one of them.
"Her favorite thing was the teddy bears," said her mother. "Whenever we would go into radiation or anything, they would give her a bear."
She raised enough money to buy 36 Scentsy bears.
"It was really cool that someone could just randomly come in and give me that," said Ashley Stroebel from Bruno, Nebraska, who was awaiting treatment.
Patricia Hagemann: "Colton, this young lady would like to give you a bear."
Colton: "Thank you."
You could call this, paying it forward -- pre-school style.
"Thank you," said Debra Pham, who admits to loving teddy bears but rarely giving them names.
"For 2-years, they gave so much to us," said Sydni's mother. "We have someone who is alive and thriving. She's an energetic 4-year-old and at one time, we didn't know if we'd get there."
This particular bear is a special one that is dressed medical scrubs. When buying one, all proceeds go to the Ronald McDonald house.
