The University of Iowa has declined to let HBO film scenes of its "Girls" show on campus.
A plot twist on the hit comedy series has the main character accepted to the Iowa Writers' Workshop at the school. HBO wanted to film on location, but the university said no, saying filming would be disruptive.
One of the show's writers, Sarah Heyward, has attended the workshop.
The decision disappointed Josh Schamberger, director of the area's convention and visitors bureau. Schamberger thinks "it would be tremendous for Iowa City to be featured so prominently on a very, very popular show on HBO."
