Gering High School Band Director Wins State Honor

Gering High School's band director has been named the state's Music Educator of the Year by the Nebraska Music Educators Association.

Letters supporting Randy Raines' nomination were written by two
Gering music instructors, parents, an administrator, and the 23
senior members of the Gering High School Band.

Raines has taught music for 37 years, the past 15 in Gering.

Raines has been director of the Gering High School marching, concert and jazz bands, as well as several elementary and junior
high instrumental and vocal ensembles.

He's a 1975 graduate of the University of Oklahoma and earned
his master's in instrumental conducting from the University of Kansas in 1981.
