Kearney police are looking for the source of counterfeit $20 bills that have recently been found at Kearney businesses.
The Kearney Hub reports that a local US Bank manager reported to police Friday that the bank had received three counterfeit bills from two Kearney restaurants. Police are now asking businesses and the public to be on alert for counterfeit $20 bills.
Police Sgt. Kyle Harshbarger says businesses need to swipe bills with a counterfeit detection pen, as well as look for several hidden safety features on currency.
Those features include watermarks and security threads on genuine bills visible when held up to a light.
