A funding drive is under way to outfit Cass County with a couple of tranquilizer guns.
Plattsmouth City Councilman and mayoral candidate Patrick Dugan calls it “Lucy the Emu's Gift of Life.” One gun would be for use in Plattsmouth and another for use throughout Cass County.
The Cassgram reports the unavailability of a tranquilizer gun was apparent when officers used a police service weapon to shoot and kill the emu last Friday in Plattsmouth when it was determined the bird posed a public safety risk. (Monday Cassgram)
Plattsmouth Animal Control Officer Sue Baker cautioned that a tranquilizer gun is best in the hands of trained professionals who know the dosages and other factors involved.
Dugan told Cassgram it’s his intent to work with a veterinarian in the guns’ usage once the fund drive is successful.
To make a donation go to SAC Federal Credit Union in Plattsmouth and tell them it’s for the "Lucy fund” set up by Dugan.
