The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is planning to meet with officials from OPPD to discuss the NRC’s continuing oversight of the Fort Calhoun nuclear plant. The public is invited to observe the July 17th meeting.
It will be held from 6-9 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Omaha. The hotel at 1616 Dodge Street will validate parking for the city’s parking garage at 100 North 15th Street.
The NRC says the nuclear power plant remains safe and shut down. It was shut down in the spring of 2011 for regular maintenance. The Missouri River flood later that spring kept the plant closed even though the water receded after a few months.
OPPD will brief NRC staff on the status of work underway and efforts to prepare for it to restart.
