A 32-year-old Omaha man has been sentenced to nine months in federal prison for illegally purchasing nearly $23,000 worth of gas.
The U.S. Attorney says Terrell Smith used a gas card from the Nebraska Air National Guard to buy gas for both himself and his friends.
The Nebraska Air National Guard became suspicious that a GSA credit card assigned to a vehicle used by a National Guard recruiter was being used improperly.
It was discovered that the card was being used as gas stations in Omaha and Council Bluffs to buy large quantities of gas on multiple occasions.
The FBI and GSA joined the investigation. They discovered that Smith used the card to buy the gas between September 17, 2011 and November 19, 2011. Combined, the purchases added up to $22,882.25.
