An Omaha man received a text from a friend, who claimed that she had been abducted. It turns out, the woman and another man were after money.
Omaha police were called to Oakview Mall Monday evening, just before 10 p.m., to investigate an abduction. 21-year-old Deric Ryle told investigators he received a text message from 19-year-old Emma Bowman, indicating that she had been abducted from the area of 120th and W. Maple. Ryle was then texted an address in the area of 124th Circle and Miami Street.
When officers arrived at the location, they discovered Bowman and another man, 24-year-old Jason Scheef. According to police, Bowman was never in any danger; the suspects were trying to get money from the victim.
Scheef and Bowman were booked for attempted theft by deception of more than $1,500.
