Dermatologists will give free skin cancer screenings at the Iowa Capitol to draw attention to the disease.
Doctors from the Iowa Dermatological Society will hold free skin cancer screenings for legislators, staff and the public at the Capitol on Wednesday. It is an effort to raise awareness about treatable forms of cancer.
In a press release, the society expressed support for legislation to ban minors from using indoor tanning facilities. Measures to do that have failed to make it out of committees in both the Senate and House so far.
According to the American Cancer Society, excessive exposure to UV radiation from indoor tanning devices increases the risk of such cancers.
Opponents argue a ban on indoor tanning would lead teenagers to tan outdoors, which they say is more harmful.
